Summary
The Germans wanted to take over the oil fields in the Caucasus region and on September 1st, 1942 they began capturing parts of the city. By November they had been trapped, and General Van Poulus had been sentanced to death. This event had the most casualties in human history (2 million) and proved to be a huge turning point for the Eastern Front.
