Summary
The German navy were trying to take out the convoys with there U-Boats in which they hunted in "wolf packs". They used destroyers as an attempt to protect the convoys from the U-Boats. Depth charges, asdic, hedgehog, radar, and long range aircraft, and carrier based aircraft all helped out with the problem as well. The Mid-Atlantic gap was then closed when the range of bombers increased, carrier based aircrafts were increased, and there were more war ships brought in.
