Summary
In June of 1941 the Germans launched an attack on Russia named Operation Barbarossa. The attack took Russia by surprise and it broke the Non-aggression pact. The Germans used blitzkrieg tactics, while Russian peasants began the scorched earth policy. A cold winter halted German troops but two million Bolsheviks were taken prisoner.
