Summary
After loosing the Civil War Chiang along with the Nationalists fled to Flormosa (modern day Taiwan) in an attempt to set up a Nationalist China. The Taiwanese were resassured by Deng Xiaoping that in rejoining China they would still retain autonomy, although in the end it remains its own nation trade increases between the two countries. By 1987 Taiwan had lifted its ban on travelling back and forth between Mainland China.
